Feedback Thoughts

I chose the two articles on perfectionism because I definitely am one to a fault. The main fault in my perfectionism is that if I do not feel like I am able to give something 100%, I just will not do it at all. This is a problem in classes because turning in something is always better than turning in nothing. This is also a problem for me personally because if I am doing something like a craft and I feel like it does not look perfect, I will throw the whole thing away. Since I have these tendencies, I was glad to see there were articles about it. 14 Signs Your Perfectionism Has Gotten Out Of Control : These "signs" definitely hit home for me. I fit into most of the categories in one way or another. I really liked the end of the article though where the author offered up a suggestion to make sure you are just being authentic, and then perfectionism doesn't matter. I feel like that is something most people need to hear, that as long as they are being themselves and do...

Project Brainstorm:

Image
I like the idea of doing something out of the gods and goddesses set of stories because I think they are the most interesting.  Here are the first for I looked at for my project: Indra: Indra is the god of lightening and thunder. I like that he kind of fell from grace in the sense that he is no longer worshipped in Hinduism because he started being seen as an alcoholic. I think it is interesting that they put human like afflictions on a god. I think it would be interesting to do a project on him because he reminds me of Thor because of what he is god of and Loki because of his recklessness. I like the idea of tying in modern stories into the Indian Epics ones.  Source Karma: I think Karma would be a good topic because I believe in karma and never knew where the concept came from. It has always just been one of those things that made sense, and now learning the backstory, I find it even more interesting. I also think that a storyline surrounding the concept of actions one p...

Reading Notes: PDE Ramayana Part B

Image
The life of Rama changes a lot throughout Part B, but the part I found must interesting was when Rama lost Sita. It seemed very Shakespearean. Rama and Jatayu Rama is upset that Sita is gone. He weeps and weeps and is completely distraught that she is gone.   Lakshmana tries to console him but is not successful. He then basically throws himself a pity party. While doing that Jatayu also dies.  The whole section is very sad for Rama, but also somewhat funny because of how dramatic the storyline, and Rama, is. I think this story would transfer into a Romeo and Juliet situation very well.  Photo information: (Tombstone, Pixnio,  source ) Bibliography: Rama and Jatayu, Indian Myth and Legend  by Donald A. Reading Notes: PDE Ramayana Part A

I was very excited to get into this week's readings and although at first glance the amount of stories seemed overwhelming. Though, after getting into them, they were actually quite quick and interesting reads. I had a couple of favorites like Rama Wins Sita and Crossing the River, but I decided on another for my reading notes because I had an idea for the writing assignment about it.  Dasharatha's Sons In  Dasharatha's Sons, Dasharatha   and his wife commit a horse sacrifice in order to get the gods to bless them with a son. They do the sacrifice which entails letting a horse go on a certain night to wander for a year and then having it returned to be killed at a fire altar. There were also other animal sacrifices made for this ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, the gods accepted the sacrifice and promised King Dasharatha four sons in return.  Bibliography:   Indian Myth and Legend, Dasharatha's Sons by Donald A.
