Week 15 Story: Cinderella and the Forest Fire

Image
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away lived a family of eight. There was a dad, mom, and six children. The youngest of these six was named Cinderella. Although the family seemed like a normal family, they were actually a blended family. Cinderella’s father had married her new stepmother in hopes of providing a family for her. Her mother had died in childbirth so her father raised her for the first several years of her life, but then he met her stepmother and they were soon married. Her father was a hard working man and so he was gone a lot. Her stepmother obviously disliked her and Cinderella grew skinny from the mistreatment. Her father did not really noticed because the house with six children in it was always chaos and she was often forgotten due to her quiet nature. She knew her father loved her though and so she never complained. Her life slowly got sadder and sadder while she lived in this new house with a new family, who did not seem to care for her ...

Week 13 Story: The Princes' Tree

Image
Once upon a time, there was a legend of a great tree in the middle of the forest. Only those with a true heart could find it. The tree was the biggest and oldest tree in all the land. The tree was said to have magical powers, which controlled the weather. In this land, there was also a palace where 4 young princes lived. They had heard of the tree and wanted to find out for themselves what magic the tree held. When the oldest prince was 12, he was allowed to go on his journey to search for the tree. He left for a week and when he returned he told stories of the great tree but was afraid that it was dead because it had no leaves. The second to oldest prince knew this could not be true because the great tree had been alive forever so when he turned 12 the next year, he too was permitted to go find the tree. It took him almost a week to find it as well, but he returned with stories of its greatness and beauty. The tree he saw had blooming flowers all over it. Now the younger two prince...

Week 12 Story: Helpful Angelica

Image
The updated version of this story is on my  portfolio As the parents put all the kids in the play pen for a nap, Angelica watched them all. She knew the babies were super sneaky and would not actually go to sleep when they were put down. Tommy was sure to be conspiring some new plan to break out. As the parents left the room, gushing about how perfect the babies are, Angelica peered around the corner. As she did, she saw Phil and Lil pull out a stash of candy they had hidden in a toy. The twins never agreed on anything and soon they were arguing about who got which candy, both fighting over the prized lollipop. They began to wrestle for it, when Angelica realized her opportunity. She approached the playpen and began to mediate. "I know who should get what candy because I am older so I know what is fair," she explained. "Then you know I should get the lollipop and the candy bar," claimed Phil. "No, I should get the candy bar, lollipop, and gum,...

Week 7 Storytelling: Eager Ekalavya

Image
This is now on my  portfolio!         Ekalavya wanted to be an archer his entire life. As long as he could remember, he dreamed of being the best archer in all the lands. Being a Bhil, Ekalavya knew his chances were slim, yet he knew he had to try to achieve his dreams. So when the call for new trainees to come, Ekalavya traveled for days to reach Drona, who was the best trainer in all the land. When Ekalavya arrived to train with Drona, he was immediately dismissed because he was a Bhil and seemingly unworthy of training with Drona. Drona obviously had some unhandled childhood trauma he was projecting onto Ekalavya, but nevertheless Ekalavya was sent away.             As a young boy, this was devastating to Ekalayva and for weeks he wept. He just wanted to be like the other boys, and get to pursue his dreams. One day, Ekalavya woke up in the early morning and knew what he had ...

Week 4 Story: Dearest Lanka

Image
This story has been updated. You can find the new version on my  portfolio website . Dear People of Lanka, You see, I had the best of intentions. I just got a little in over my head and I don't think I should be blamed for that. Okay, let me back up a little so you can see my side of the story. It all started when the  Rakshasas tried to torture me. Can you imagine? A sweet, innocent monkey like me being tortured? Someone should have definitely called PETA. Anyways, I am being tortured for telling secrets and being a spy, which in my defense no one specifically told me that I wasn't allowed to be a spy so they should have been more clear. So they decide that regular old torture isn't good enough for me and they LIGHT ME ON FIRE. Now of course, I was going to fight them off because obviously monkeys are the superior species and I have great strength, but there were too many of them and they were trying to burn me alive. Okay, well not all of me, just my tail but...

Week 2 Story: The Selfish, Brazen Rabbit

Image
This story is also on my portfolio if you would like to read it there:  The Selfish, Brazen Rabbit Once upon a time, there was a young man named Rabbit. He was the most handsome guy in all the land and knew it as well. He was the favorite of all the others students in town, and even his teachers favored him. He was also smart and a very talented in seemingly every sport. Everyone seemed to envy him and try to follow after him. If he bought a certain style of clothing, soon the entire school would have it. This constant fanfare began to go to his head though. As he got older, his ability to do no wrong made him mean in his soul. He began to toy with the younger students because he could. No matter what he did, he breezed through it. If he skipped an assignment, the teachers gave him an extension. If he was accused of bullying, he claimed to be misunderstood. Somehow life seemed to be perfect for Rabbit. By the time he was a senior, he was the most popular student with anyth...
