Growth Mindset: Multiple Intelligences

Image
(Multiple intelligene graphic,  source ) For my final growth mindset reading of the semester, I read about multiple intelligences. I really believe in this concept. It reminds me of the picture of a fish and a tree that says "If you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will always fail", which is all about how people have strengths in different areas. This is something that is hard to keep in mind in college when your intelligence seems to be directly related to your ability to jump through arbitrary hoops like tests and quizzes and then quantified into a GPA. It is such a backwards system and frustrating to get caught up in. I am glad I ended the semester with this graphic and reading because it was a great reminder right before finals.

Growth Mindset: Mottos/Mantras

(Image Made With  cheezburger ) My life motto is "The Journey is the Destination" and I think it goes well with growth mindset because it is all about focusing on now and not worrying about the end goal.

Growth Mindset: Acronyms

Image
GOAT Go Out And Try I thought this was a good reinterpretation of the acronym GOAT because people usually associate it with "Greatest Of All Time" and growth mindset is not about being the overall best, but your personal best. Image Information: Mountain Goat, Wikimedia Commons,  Source

Growth Mindset: Geniuses

Image
My list of what a genius is: Someone who: learns from their mistakes, uses mistakes to grow, takes all they have learned to accomplish their goals, and someone with a little bit of luck too. So I think being a genius is 95% effort and growing and 5% timing. I made this picture with  canva as a metaphor for what it takes to be a genius. I feel like it is really easy to get caught up with just praising other people for being born a genius and forgetting the effort it takes to actually accomplish great things.

Growth Mindset: Quotes

Image
Quote 1- L.i.f.e.: Live it fearlessly everyday.  I am a sucker for an accronym so I really enjoyed this quote. I think that everyone gets wrapped up in the future at times that they forget to live in the present. Quote 2- Keep Moving forward or else I think this is fitting in this class because there are a lot of assignments so you have to just do one thing at a time and keep moving forward.  (You can do it thumbs up, Iemoji,  source ) Quotes are from:  source

Growth Mindset: Pinterest Cats

Image
I like this Growth Mindset Cat because I often get inside my own head and overthink things. I think it is important to be reminded to step outside the situation and change your point of view. Sometimes just the break or new viewpoint can help you succeed or find a new path to take. So if something is not working, it is important to remember that you might just be going at it the wrong way.  Honestly, I have never related to a picture more. I am very much a napper and a kitten lover so this is the perfect photo for me. Also, I think the mindset of needing a break is important for me to remember in so many classes. Currently it is 8:48am and I have yet to go to sleep for the night because I really need to catch up on this class and do some other homework, but the end is in sight and I am so excited to take a break and go to sleep. So it is important to remember breaks are equally as important because no one can live without sleep or a little fun. Photo Information:...

Growth Mindset

I had never heard of the growth mindset, but I love the idea of it. I think that the way classes are traditionally set up is detrimental to most people, so having schools set up with the growth mindset would be amazing. I loved in Dweck's TedTalk that she spoke about how we don't give certain groups the opportunity to grow and like the school in Harlem, if we did with the right tools they would flourish. I believe the growth mindset will be helpful to me this semester because I am taking a lot of course work, and I have a bad tendency to just not do something at all if it means it will not be perfect. The growth mindset though would be to do my best and learn from it and move on. I think that I have inadvertently learned some growth mindsets from just being in college. High school was not hard for me so facing challenges in school was definitely an adjustment for me in college, but throughout the 4 years I have been here, I have learned that f...
