Tech Tip: Canvas Mobile App

Image
I previously had the Canvas App, but had deleted it after not using it much. I re-downloaded it for this Tech Tip, and I think it will be more useful this semester since I am in more classes. Overall it is a pretty user friendly app. One thing I did find super helpful was renaming my classes because before they were all their course numbers (i.e. COMM 0000) which got confusing since there were so many with the communication prefix. This is an easy thing to do that can really help managing classes and is a fast way to check class announcements or new grade inputs. Photo information: Personal Photo

Week 4 Story: Dearest Lanka

Image
This story has been updated. You can find the new version on my  portfolio website . Dear People of Lanka, You see, I had the best of intentions. I just got a little in over my head and I don't think I should be blamed for that. Okay, let me back up a little so you can see my side of the story. It all started when the  Rakshasas tried to torture me. Can you imagine? A sweet, innocent monkey like me being tortured? Someone should have definitely called PETA. Anyways, I am being tortured for telling secrets and being a spy, which in my defense no one specifically told me that I wasn't allowed to be a spy so they should have been more clear. So they decide that regular old torture isn't good enough for me and they LIGHT ME ON FIRE. Now of course, I was going to fight them off because obviously monkeys are the superior species and I have great strength, but there were too many of them and they were trying to burn me alive. Okay, well not all of me, just my tail but

Sita Tested So Sita and Rama are finally back together, but Rama is not sure of her virtue because she has been gone for so long. For someone who was so upset for her to be gone for so long, he sure treats her poorly upon her return. She is obviously confused that he is being a jerk and explains that if she is so morally corrupt that she rather die than have this reputation. Lakashama thought this was ridiculous, but Rama was totally cool with playing with literal fire and his bride's life so they made a funeral pyre. Sita prayed that she not be burnt if her hurt never strayed from Rama, and she was thankfully okay but all of the people watching the event were distraught that Sita could die. They all begged Rama to let Sita come out of the fire. The God Brahma finally came to the rescue and answered that Sita was true to Rama the entire time she was gone. So Sita came out of the pyre and Rama explained why he let her do it. He claimed that the people needed to see that she was no

The Burning of Lanka The monkey,  Hanuman, goes to try and save Sita. When the Rakshasas find out that he is a spy they light his tail on fire and parade him around. When Sita learns that they are torturing him because of her, she prays that he would not feel the burning and the gods answer her prayers. Upon feeling relieved from the burning, but still being on fire, Hanuman takes his tail and sets fire to Lanka. He kind of loses his mind in doing so setting everything in site on fire without a second thought and then he put his tail out in the ocean. When his tail was out, he realized that Sita was in Lanka so he could have hurt her, but he quickly found her under a tree okay. He then partied because he was so proud of himself.  This story when the human/monkey like picture reminded me of the flying monkeys on The Wizard of Oz/Wicked. They are the same somewhat physically and they are both like bidders of their " masters". I think portraying Sita as an Elphaba like

Feedback Thoughts

I chose the two articles on perfectionism because I definitely am one to a fault. The main fault in my perfectionism is that if I do not feel like I am able to give something 100%, I just will not do it at all. This is a problem in classes because turning in something is always better than turning in nothing. This is also a problem for me personally because if I am doing something like a craft and I feel like it does not look perfect, I will throw the whole thing away. Since I have these tendencies, I was glad to see there were articles about it. 14 Signs Your Perfectionism Has Gotten Out Of Control : These "signs" definitely hit home for me. I fit into most of the categories in one way or another. I really liked the end of the article though where the author offered up a suggestion to make sure you are just being authentic, and then perfectionism doesn't matter. I feel like that is something most people need to hear, that as long as they are being themselves and do

Project Brainstorm:

I like the idea of doing something out of the gods and goddesses set of stories because I think they are the most interesting.  Here are the first for I looked at for my project: Indra: Indra is the god of lightening and thunder. I like that he kind of fell from grace in the sense that he is no longer worshipped in Hinduism because he started being seen as an alcoholic. I think it is interesting that they put human like afflictions on a god. I think it would be interesting to do a project on him because he reminds me of Thor because of what he is god of and Loki because of his recklessness. I like the idea of tying in modern stories into the Indian Epics ones.  Source Karma: I think Karma would be a good topic because I believe in karma and never knew where the concept came from. It has always just been one of those things that made sense, and now learning the backstory, I find it even more interesting. I also think that a storyline surrounding the concept of actions one puts out i

The life of Rama changes a lot throughout Part B, but the part I found must interesting was when Rama lost Sita. It seemed very Shakespearean. Rama and Jatayu Rama is upset that Sita is gone. He weeps and weeps and is completely distraught that she is gone.   Lakshmana tries to console him but is not successful. He then basically throws himself a pity party. While doing that Jatayu also dies.  The whole section is very sad for Rama, but also somewhat funny because of how dramatic the storyline, and Rama, is. I think this story would transfer into a Romeo and Juliet situation very well.  Photo information: (Tombstone, Pixnio,  source ) Bibliography: Rama and Jatayu, Indian Myth and Legend  by Donald A.
