Reading Notes: Ramayana Part C

The Burning of Lanka

The monkey, Hanuman, goes to try and save Sita. When the Rakshasas find out that he is a spy they light his tail on fire and parade him around. When Sita learns that they are torturing him because of her, she prays that he would not feel the burning and the gods answer her prayers. Upon feeling relieved from the burning, but still being on fire, Hanuman takes his tail and sets fire to Lanka. He kind of loses his mind in doing so setting everything in site on fire without a second thought and then he put his tail out in the ocean. When his tail was out, he realized that Sita was in Lanka so he could have hurt her, but he quickly found her under a tree okay. He then partied because he was so proud of himself.

This story when the human/monkey like picture reminded me of the flying monkeys on The Wizard of Oz/Wicked. They are the same somewhat physically and they are both like bidders of their "masters". I think portraying Sita as an Elphaba like character would be an interesting take on the story.
